Neil's Note
Hi all,
Just a couple of updates from me in this issue. We thanked Jill and Kate and all the kitchen volunteers in the last Newsletter for their tremendous work at the Open Competition we ran a couple of weeks ago. The profit made for the club on the tournament and in the kitchen was over £2,150 which is significantly up on recent years and a great boost to our non-member fee income. Thanks again to all the ladies and our Finals Day umpires!

As a reminder we are running the Bucks County Closed tournament at the request of Bucks LTA between Monday 28th August and Saturday 2nd September. Court availability will have some limitations during the day but should be freed up by the evening. The draw looks smaller than the Open tournament so should not be as busy. Malcom and Janet Jamieson, the referees, will try to accommodate members wishing to play in the daytime. Contact Jill Stiel if you want to check on a particular day. Also let Kate know (kate1miller@aol.com) if you are interested in doing the odd shift in the kitchen during the week and helping to add some more money to the club's coffers.

Do read the section in this Newsletter on our new floodlit court booking system if you wish to be able to book a court this winter. We have moved from FastCourts to a LTA court booking system using ClubSpark. This will save us about £400 this year and has a good App for booking courts via your phone.

I am still thinking about that wifi thing... next step is to try to get a better wifi in the office in the main clubhouse to extend coverage. We are switching to PlusNet Fibre broadband in September that is cheaper and faster than the current BT one.. Then I need to work out how to beam across the courts to top clubhouse. All solutions seem to be problematic at this point! I am in discussions with Hamptons about helping them out with some space at the club for some weeks in September as their office in the village is flooded. Their IT department may be able to help with extending our wifi. More on this later if it comes to pass. When we have that sorted we might have a look at some web cams so members can see if it's raining or courts are free. Nice suggestion from Mike Doran on that one.

See you on court (well I'll be watching, still can't play...grr)

New Floodlit Court Booking Process This Winter
The Winter 2017 / 2018 season is just around the corner (boo) and floodlights will be needed soon. We have switched to the LTA's CLubSpark court booking system for this winter. It will save us approximatley £400 per year and provides a very easy way to book via an App on your phone (or via a browser on your computer).

All playing members can request to be registered with ClubSpark to book a floodlit court.  If you wish to be able to book a floodlit court this winter please email Neil at neil1miller@aol.com with your request.  You will not be able to book unless you receive this invite and then register with ClubSpark. We are not doing a bulk email invite to register to all members as only a minority of members use the floodlight booking system.  Neil will arrange for an invite to be sent to you from ClubSpark to complete the registration. Full instructions with screen shots on how to register with ClubSpark and then how to use your browser or the phone App are available on the Member's Area of the website here: https://gmltc.clubbuzz.co.uk/members/court_bookings

...if you have forgotten your www.gmltc.com password try the forgotten password / user name button on the sign in screen or check out this how to guide on this page: http://www.gmltc.com/contact_us
Have you got Angela's Babolat in your tennis bag?
Angela Jones' Babolat racket has gone walkies... it was left on Court 15, the top clay court, two Fridays ago, the 4th August. It is a Babolat racquet 110 wide head, 'Lite Drive', light blue and white with a worn plastic protector. Have you picked this up in error? If so please contact Angela on 01494 863324 as she would like it back!
Junior Night Continues!
Note to all Junior parents that Mike Doran is in charge of junior evenings for the next couple of weeks. Parents are requested to confirm their Junior's attendance on Thursday or Friday morning latest via the whatsapp group. We can then organise or stand down the coaches. Thanks, Raja
Junior Mini Red, Orange and Green balls to borrow
We have put three buckets of mini balls in the main clubhouse room large storage cupboard by the TV. Feel free to borrow some balls for your mini's to hit with but do put them back afterwards for others to use and don't leave them on court or take them home!

Here is some guidance on which mini balls to use by age group but feel free to use any type if it helps your mini have fun!

Mini red balls are 75% softer than a normal tennis ball and are targeted at 5 to 8 year olds. They allow the mini to whack the ball without it zooming off somewhere so helps in developing rallies. Mini red is usually played across one side of a court using a smaller net. You can use the mini nets on Court 13 if they are not being used for coaching.

Mini orange balls are 50% softer than a normal ball and are targeted at 8 to 9 year olds. Mini orange is played on a narrower and shorter court than full size. We have painted mini orange and red lines on Court 16 but you can have a hit anywhere that is free. .

Mini green balls are 25% softer than normal balls and are targeted at 10 year olds. Mini green tennis is played on a full size tennis court.

Sorry about the image being sideways, V1 insists that's the way it has t be! We will move the buckets to the top clubhouse when the summer camps have finished (if Hamptons are not using it as a temporary office per Neil's Note above)
