Tennis is an all-year sport and we have lots of opportunities to play tennis sessions through the winter! In addition to Ladies Night, Mens Night and Mixed Night that continue each week, we have three further opportunities for social tennis for all levels of players. Here is an overview of each one and sign up details are further below: 

1. Mixed Sunday Fun Team Tennis. This is mixed doubles on a Sunday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm, organised in teams of 6. There are 3 levels of ability in each team: beginner/ rusty racket, bit of a player / improver and club 2nd / 3rd team level. Teams and dates are organised by David Howells and play ~ every 3 weeks or so. See below for more detail on how this works. This league will start on 21st October and Summer Sunday Social Tennis 4pm - 6pm will stop on this date. 

2. Winter Mixed Doubles Box League (used to be called the "Winter Floodlit League"). Mixed pairs (any level) enter and play ~ 4 to 5 other mixed pairs in a box league of similar ability over a "round" of 5 to 6 weeks, in a best of 11 games format. This is repeated four times over the winter and pairs move up or down a box depending on their results. Matches are arranged to suit the two pairs within the "round" deadline. This will start on October 1st but new pairs can join in as a new round starts. 

3. Winter Singles Box League - new for this winter! This is for ladies and men in a mixed box league like the Winter Mixed Doubles League. Singles matches will be best of three sets with tie break in each set at 6-6. We plan to play this in a 4 week "round" with 4 to 5 players of similar ability per box. We hope to get 5 rounds in over the winter with promotions and demotions between boxes based on results. This will start as soon as we have sufficient players to start a box and all abilities are welcome. Come on you singles players!

Please do sign up. You will then be allocated to a team and given dates for your matches. There is also opportunity to "sub" for other teams if a player has to pull out. 

Last season we had lots of fun and we hope to get enough players for more than 6 teams this season. Each Sunday two teams of six comprising a Lady 1, 2, 3 and Man 1, 2, 3 will play a round-robin of short, 20 minute, sets. Your team partner is changed for each set but you always play against the same level Lady or Man in the opposing team. The number of games won by each team is recorded and at the end of the league a winning team is announced. Tea and cakes are available after matches.

2. Winter Mixed Doubles Box League
To sign up email Frances Rawle at francesrawle@btinternet.com. If you don't have a partner we will try to match you up with one. The first round will start at the beginning of October, so get your name in to Frances now - or join a little later for round 2, 3 or 4

I have been doing the newsletter for nearly five years and feel it’s time for change, so I'm looking for a willing somebody to take over.

The job essentially involves sending an email to the regular contributors, GMLTC Comittee, Challenge Tennis contacts etc. to gather the material, then copy and paste (occasionally write/edit) it all into the newsletter function of the Club Management software we use, along with some pictures, and then hit send. Hopefully you have noticed that I usually send one out every 10-14 days, depending on need. It usually takes 1-2 hours to do, depending on the amount of news. It all takes a bit of getting used to, but is pretty straightforward really. I can help out with it/do it together in the beginning and can always be contacted for help.

So in other words it's a nice, fun, manageable job for someone who feels they can help, or a new member who might like to get more involved with the club. If you’re interested or want to know more, please contact me and I can tell you why you'd love to do it!.
