Winter Mixed Doubles Box League
Looking for a fun way to keep your tennis going over the winter season? The mixed doubles box league is a winter tradition, running between October and April each year. It covers a wide range of standards of play and is open to all members. It involves playing about 4 matches over each 6 week period, which you organise at a time to suit yourselves. Each match comprises 11 games and all games count - the two pairs with the highest number of games move up to the next league at the end of the 6 week session and the two with the least move down, then we start again. Matches plus warm up can easily be completed in a one hour session under the floodlights, but it is not a requirement to play at night. The first session will get started at the beginning of October, so please contact Frances Rawle (francesrawle@btinternet.com) by 22nd September if you are interested in joining. It is best if you can find your own partner, but if you don't have one do get in touch anyway as I can sometimes put you in touch with others who are looking.
Home & Away Charity Tournament Round-Up and Silent Auction

Dear Members, we were blessed to have fantastic weather for the Home and Away children’s charity tournament on Saturday 9th May. 32 players and huge support team made it a great event. This is our 9th year of running this event and your generosity continues to exceed all expectation.
I would like to thank the organising team; Jan Lowe, Jez Rose, Jill Stiel, Jane King, Mary Bartlett, Vivian Bailey, Jason Kwan, Marie White, John Ramsbottom and Gita Kadirgamar. Also a big thank you to the club for hosting this charity event.
This year we are supporting the Family Village Farm. Over the past two years, under the guidance of Marie and John, we have built up a close relationship with this amazing orphanage in South India. We sponsor 3 children as a club and many individual members also sponsor children. £250 provides a year of care and education for each child.
Our new charity this year, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity is much closer to home and provides specialist nursing input for sick children with rare and under-supported long term illnesses.
This year so far we have raised £870 on the day. A fantastic result for the two charities.
We hope to sail past our target with two silent auction items which will continue to run until Finals’ Day next week. The items are:
Cate and Michael Walls have offered their home in Edinburgh for a week or a weekend.
Gerrards Cross Golf Club have offered a fourball.
There will be slips and envelopes available to enter your bid(s) on Finals’ Day. If you are unable to make Finals’ Day and cannot resist bidding for one, or both, of these fabulous offers, you can e mail or text your bid to me.

Sunday Fun Tennis - Marvellous Opportunity to Join In
Come along and have some fun tennis! Sunday Fun Tennis is a league within GMLTC played for some fun and exercise over two hours on occasional Sunday afternoons between October 2017 and April 2018. Last season we had lots of fun and this season we hope to get enough players for more than 6 teams.

Each Sunday two teams of six comprising a Lady 1, 2, 3 and Man 1, 2, 3 will play a round-robin of short, 20 minute, sets. Your team partner is changed for each set but you always play against the same level Lady or Man in the opposing team. The number of games won by each team is recorded and at the end of the league a winning team is announced.

If we have numbers for six teams then you would play every 3rd Sunday. People often play more frequently as substituting at the same level (e.g Lady 2 for Lady 2) is allowed! Sign up is via the Doodle poll below indicating whether you are Lady / Man 1 (good standard /club 2nd / 3rd team level); Man / Lady 2 (bit of a player, can rally ok); 3 (Improver /rusty racket to beginner). You will then be allocated to a team and given dates for your matches.

You can sign up at the following Doodle Link: http://doodle.com/poll/p9hfqusekvmxh2v7 It's really easy to do and can be done via a PC, Apple or Smartphone. If Doodle is beyond your ken, please email davidhowells.uk@gmail.com

Please do sign up. It is a great way to keep your tennis going throughout the Winter and a good opportunity to meet lots of other club members who play at a variety of levels.

U12Mixed Final start time: 2pm

If you have not played all your matches please check the draw in the top clubhouse and start arranging your matches ASAP!!! Unfortunately due to the high volume of matches yet to be played in the red ball and green ball age group we have had to extend their finals Day to Saturday 21st October.
Team Fees Please!!
This is a quick reminder to all team players to please pay their summer season match fees to their captains. The poor captains are on the receiving end of Mary's chase ups to pay the club. And poor Mary is trying ot0 keep our accounts up to date!
Thanks to all those teams who have paid up so far.
Inter Club Tennis
Approaching end of summer inter club competition and getting ready for the winter competition.

We fielded 22 teams, a club record this summer and generally our teams were playing at higher divisions. In Aegon, both Mens and Ladies played in the Regional SW(East) Divisions. We had 2 teams in Premier Division and 2 teams in Division 1.

Keith Armstrong and Jason Kwan captained our 2 undefeated teams this summer. Keith who is also a ballroom dance instructor was delighted with the team and when asked what is he looking forward to most of all, he replied the Reception where Champions are recognised and specifically the formal dance after the presentations.

Well done everyone and thank you for playing and representing GMTLC.
