Junior Open Tournament
JOT
Our annual LTA Junior Open Tournament starts on Sunday 30th July at 9am with the U9 Mini-Orange event and ends with Finals on Saturday 30th July. As the LTA has reduced the number of other competitions during this week we are expecting a higher entry than last year. Hopefully, that means more money for the club! Please contact Jill - jillstiel@gmail.com or text 07900631777 - to check out availability of courts for members during the week. Play is expected to finish around 6pm each day with some adult matches going on beyond this. Janet and Malcolm Jamieson, our referees, will try wherever possible to free up courts for club use during the day but this is weather and tournament entry size dependant. Ladies, Men's & Mixed nights will run as normal although there may be be the odd tournament match still being played on some courts so please be aware of this.

We encourage our Juniors to enter and have a go! There is also an Open age group Men's and Ladies singles competition (from 5.30pm during the week) as well as Men's Doubles. Adult members are very welcome to enter to get some good competitive tennis!

The link to all age group entries is here: https://www3.lta.org.uk/Competitions/Competition/?ctn=1-A04SONN
Men's Night
Men’s Night continues throughout the summer and winter on Tuesdays from 1800 onwards. All standards very welcome. Roll-up, play, mix in, repeat! The bar is open from 1930 if you get thirsty and food, kindly and expertly cooked by Howard, is normally also available from about 2015. Come along, join in, support your club and have some fun.
Mixed Night
Mixed Night runs every Thursday throughout the summer from about 1800. It’s open to adult players of all standards. As well as an opportunity to make use of our lovely grass courts its also a chance to mix in with many other members of the club and maximise the value from your membership fees. The bar is normally open from 1930 and food is normally available most weeks too. No need to book....just turn up and mix-in.
Easy Like Sunday Morning
“Easy Like” (the brainchild of Simon Gresswell) runs every Sunday morning from 9-11 and is open to players of all standards. Get out of your scratcher, get out of your household chores and get yourself along any Sundaymorning! Exuberant tennis with plenty of “commentary” tends to be the format – an opportunity to blow away the cobwebs after perhaps a late Saturday evening. It’s a mix-in (we don’t do fixed 4s) so just turn up any time between 9 and 11 and you’ll be made to feel very welcome. Occasional post-tennis trips to the Deep Mill Diner can also occur randomly.
Men's First Team Reports
After winning promotion into the Aegon Regional division last summer, the Men's 1 have managed to stay in the division comfortably.
This is a fantastic effort considering we lost Marek at the end of last season, and our No.1 (Tom Miller) had to miss several matches while he was in the States!!
Overall, we won 2, lost 5 matches - but 2 of those losses were decided on a tie-break shoot-out lottery after finishing the match 3-3.
Many thanks and well done to all who played, including Tom Miller, Tom Smith, Alex Hartley, Neil Johnson, Ross Hemsley, James Harley, Oli Osbourne and Tor Stockdale.

We live to fight another day... ;))

Nic Blagg (14) and partner Tor Stockdale (considerably older!) won all 6 sets to contribute to the Men's 1st Team win over Chesham Bois on Saturday 8th July. They won the match 6.5 rubbers to 2.5 rubbers, 13 sets to 5. The team made an impressive start on their quest to retain the Premier Division title. Well done to Mssrs Blagg, Stockdale, Fyfe, Harley, Miller and Phillips.
Ladies First Team Report
Rowan thought you might like to know how the ladies have got on in the Regional Aegon this season.
Our last match was on Sunday and we finished with the same number of points as Royal Berks, but fortunately they had more rubbers than us, so they will go up to the National division. We were delighted to finish 2nd as we really didn’t want to go up!!. It was a very tight division with 3 teams being relegated because of the teams coming down from Nationals. If we’d lost our last match, instead of coming 2nd, we’d have been relegated. The following ladies all played at least one match for the team Sophie, Lottie, JoJo, Nicki, Becca, Kate, Amanda, Jade and Rowan

Same division next year which is great news.
Court 8 Floodlights
Good News - Court 8 Floodlights Approved!
We heard last week that Chiltern District Council have given us planning permission for floodlights on Court 8. This is the blue acrylic hard court nearest to the main clubhouse. This, along with the resurfacing of Court 14, is part of the Scenario D investment approved at the February SGM.
We will need to change the surface of Court 8 so that the floodlights are usable when it is wet in the winter months. We also need to change two of the tarmac courts, 17 and 18, to acrylic hard court so that we end up with four of that faster surface.
Per the Scenario D plan it will take us a couple of years of good member growth to accumulate the necessary investment funding to make these changes. The Committee will consider our options and investigate new sources of funding to see if there is anyway to accelerate development.
If anyone wants to chip in some cash let Neil know! Many thanks to Kate Brown for developing, submitting and managing the successful application on behalf of the club.
Court 14
Court 14 had been signed off and is now ready for play! It will take a while for the sand to settle so you may think there is too much sand. It needs some playing in so please give it a go! Don't forget to drag the court and do the lines after your game.

Many thanks to Andy Rasmussen for overseeing the project which has been completed ahead of schedule.
Top Car Park Closed
To help our close neighbours in Rook Wood Way and foster good relations we have closed the road to the top clubhouse. This will reduce some of the noise that residents experience in their gardens from the club. Please use the main car park where there are plenty of places. We will review use of the top car park after the summer months and it will still be used for very busy times such as the Junior Open and Bucks County Closed tournaments in August and social events. In case of emergency vehicle access to the top clubhouse or the top part of the club a key for the barrier will be put in the top clubhouse on a hook by the floodlight control box. There is also a key in the main clubhouse office on the key hooks. When using the main car park please park considerately using one space! We will be repainting the parking bay lines to help with this.
Old Balls
There is a nice new old ball bin by the steps to courts 1,2 3 to put your old balls into. Balls are given to local schools. Please fill it up! (flip flops and painted nails not obligatory!)

Come and join us!
