Ladder players
We have a few younger adult members who are really keen to play in the ladders (singles and dubs) against other members who have not yet reached the maturity to join the old fart brigade.
If you qualify, PLEASE get in touch with Jason -ligjasonk@gmail.com - ASAP so that he can set it up.

Avoid Household Chores! at Easy Like Sunday Morning Tennis
A reminder that all are very welcome to the Easy LikeSunday Morning Tennis that takes place between 9.00 and 11.00 am every weekend throughout the year. It’s a great excuse for avoiding Sunday morning chores. The general format is: Roll-up – play a set – possibly exchange some mid-game banter – mix in – play another set – repeat! We generally start on the clay courts and then move across to the grass after 10.00 when it’s dry enough. The tennis is occasionally supplemented with trips to the Deep Mill Diner for brunch. No need to book nor register nor be invited, but if you wanted to be added to the Doodle list please contactdavidhowells.uk@gmail.com
Great British tennis weekend Open Day - Sunday 17th July
The club will be running an Open Day on Sunday from 11 till 3 - all members, family and friends are welcome to come down & join in the activities - have a go at Cardio tennis or see how fast your serve is - if you can serve at 141 mph Jill will buy you a drink! The Bar will be open, Simon Gresswell is manning the BBQ and of course, tea & cakes will be available.
Junior Open Tournament July 24-30
The Junior Open Tournament will be running again this year from Sunday 24th – Saturday 30th July.
This annual event will mean that many of the courts will be in use during this week. The draw will be done this weekend after which time we will have a better idea of numbers. Please contact Jill - jillstiel@gmail.com or text 07909631777 to check out availability of courts for members during the week - the referees try wherever possible to free up courts for club use but this is, of course, weather & tournament entry size dependent.
Ladies, men's & mixed nights will run as normal although there may be the odd tournament match still being played so please be aware of this.
If you do come down to the club to play, please check with the tournament officials based in the top clubhouse as to which courts are free. Thanks for your understanding

Saturday 30th is finals day so if you’d like to see some great tennis from theses talented juniors do come down to the club where there will be tea and cakes available.
Las Vegas in GM
Last Saturday saw the clubhouse as casino and dance floor as 60 members and guests enjoyed an excellent evening playing black jack and roulette with dancing and a super supper. No club rules broken - it was play money which led to some very courageous bets!

Big thanks to Di Wingfield and Sarah Haywood-Cook for designing and organising everything...Di, Jill Stiel, Adrienne Hill and Melissa Chatwin for transforming the clubhouse... Adrienne, Amanda Quinn, Emma Harris Jan Lowe and Kate Miller for very tasty nosh and the gang (Dave Wingfield, Keith Harris, Pete Lowe, Ajit Kadiragamar and Joost Van Spengler) for putting up the marquee.
Davis Cup on TV
Britain's defence of the Davis Cup is on TV on Sunday so you may like to come down & watch how tennis should be played & of course have a drink! Coverage starts at 14.45
Pie Night on Tuesday
It's time for another of our very popular Pie Nights on Tuesday after Men's Night. Please let Kate or David know by Monday morning if you will be coming, to know if it's viable. Confirmation either via David's doodle or email please to Kate kate1miller@aol.com
Julian Rides for Alzheimers
An event note from Julian Weber who is cycling The Prudential Ride London - 100 miles - on Sunday 31st July 2016
• I have been an active member of GMLTC for over 30 years, and my wife Tricia and both sons - George and Ross - have also been members previously.
• I am cycling the Prudential Ride 100 mile event in aid of my favourite charity - The Alzheimer's Society. There are over 26,000 cyclists taking part, most supporting charities of their choice but of which over 400 are riding for Alzheimers.
Why Alzheimers?
• Alzheimers is a form of Dementia and I knew very little about the disease until 2 of my close friends told me about their personal experiences of members of their family who are suffering, and have suffered from this disease. I then became acutely aware not ony of the symptons of these sufferers, but also of the huge impact on the lives of their nearest and dearest.
A few Alzheimer facts:-
• The current trend of people with Alzheimer’s is on the increase!
• This debilitating disease currently affects 1 person in every 76 in the UK. With these frightening statistics you probably already know someone who has suffered or is suffering from this illness? Within 10 years this statistic is forecast to increase to 1 in 65 people!
• It is a terminal illness!
So how can you help me to help the Alzheimer’s Society?
• If you would like to help me raise funds for Alzheimer’s, please access my fund raising website below and any donation amount you can make will be most welcome. (Note that 100% of the funds raised goes to Alzheimer’s)
Many thanks for your support - Julian Weber
