Roy Vincent Trophy Saturday 25th June
The tournament is mixed doubles for all abilities from 16 years old.
We will start at 1.30pm by drawing for partners, so please enter individually. It will be a round robin to start with, the winners of the groups going through to play for the trophy.
It is now ten years since I lost Roy and I gave the trophy to the club in his memory. For newer members who didn't know him, he was on the committee for many years and was captain and chairman as well.
There will be tea and cakes at about 4pm included in your entrance fee of £5 each. We will have a barbecue in the evening from 6pm. Salad and bread and pud provided but please bring your own meat. (£6 per person). Please enter by email to meanngvin@hotmail.com or on the list in the club house byJune 20th.
Thanks, I look forward to seeing you. It is a great way to get to know other members and have fun.
All offers of help will be appreciated.(cakes, puds, barbecue, bar etc. ) Thanks, Ann Vincent.

AEGON Ladies Team Success
The Ladies Aegon Team are delighted that they have stayed in the Regional Aegon Division for next year’s competition. This is the 3rd time the team have been in the Regional Division, but the first time we’ll have stayed for consecutive seasons. Aegon matches are played on set dates between April and June.

We beat Royal Berks 2 in our first match, then lost to East Gloucester, Caversham and Royal Berks 1, leaving us with a must win final match against Wokingham (who had also beaten Royal Berks 2). It was a very tense and hard fought match on hard courts on a very hot day, with a 3-3 match score at the end of the singles and doubles. In this competition 2 x singles match tie-breaks are played to get a result, and if the score is still level after this, then there is a final doubles match tie-break. Fortunately we won the 2 x singles match tie-breaks and therefore will stay in the Division.

Many many thanks to the committed team – Sophie Bell, Lottie Hayward-Cook, Nicki Hartley, Catherine Santamaria, JoJo Hayward -Cook and Lucy Brown. A fantastic team effort with special thanks to Lucy for the effort she made to be available for the final, must win match. Some great tennis by everyone and we’re looking forward to more tennis at this level next season.
Neil's Note
Hi all,

Summer has arrived - we finally got three grass courts open last Friday and it has rained pretty much ever since!

I know a number of you had asked when the grass courts would open. Ian had to manage a schedule of grass cutting to gradually get down to the 10mm required for play and white lining. Due to the wet and warm weather our grass growth has been rather turbo-charged so it was a case of 2 cuts forward and 3 steps back since the end of May. I hope you can now enjoy them when the grass is dry and the sub-surface hardens as it dries. The fourth court will be open as soon as Ian can get the grass to the right length. Please note, only tennis shoes on the grass courts, no play before 10.00am or if damp, or the nets have been lowered.

At our recent Committee meeting we discussed our progress toward the plan for the financial year to the end of September. If we continue to recruit at a good rate over the summer months then total income will be just over target at £119k by the end of September. Expected membership fee income of £92k will cover only 86% of our operating costs and required reserve allocations so it is important we continue to seek other forms of income from clubhouse hire, events, match fees and socials. Our operating costs are also tracking to plan and we expect to come in around £109k thus creating a small £10k operating surplus per our Business Plan. All on track and so far going to plan!

Our membership is now at 476 and we have recruited 30 new members since the May 14th Open Day. We have more inquiries coming in from our new web site each week and the Queen's Birthday celebration at the Buryfield last weekend. To all our new members you are very welcome and we hope you enjoy the club! We are lining up "buddies" for new adult members to help you get acquainted with the club. I will be at the new members "Tennis & Tea" on Sunday 26th June at 2pm (more details on this in this Newsletter) so look forward to meeting you then if you can come. In the meantime if there is anything I can do to help, answer questions or guide you please email me at neil1miller@aol.com or call me on 07771 660343.

Finally, I hope to see many of you at the club summer party on Saturday 9th July - please come along and enjoy the Las Vegas themed evening! We need your participation! More details on how to buy tickets in this Newsletter and at the club.

I hope you have some good games and well done to our U8 Mini Reds who won their league!

GMLTC at the Buryfield Queen's Birthday Picnic
Jill Stiel has done great work for the club in establishing links with the Great Missenden Village Association and Parish Council. This meant we could use the Buryfield tennis courts last Saturday afternoon during the Queen's Birthday Picnic event. We ran a "beat the coach" and fastest serve competition with Ben Spargo and Will Gibbs leading these activities on both courts. We had a wide range of ages and abilities having a go and good expressions of interest in joining the club from those who took part. The club also donated a spare net to the Parish Council to replace one that was in tatters - always good to help the community! Thanks to Jill Stiel and Neil Miller for staffing the GMLTC stand (with thanks to Hamptons for lending us their gazebo) and to Ben and Will for giving up their Saturday afternoon for the club and doing a brilliant job on court.
