Membership Subs
Thanks to everyone who has paid their 2018 – 19 subs. If you have done this, pat yourself on the back and you may read no further.

To all you others, the early payment window has now passed and you need to make sure you pay before the end of April or you will have to pay the increased new member fees. That would be very sad and is best avoided. You will also save the committee lots of time as we won’t have to chase you up or throw you off the courts, very embarrassing!

Full details of what and how to pay are on the website. https://gmltc.clubbuzz.co.uk/members/renewing_your_membership

New Coach, Scott
Meet Your New Head Coach
Psst, his name is Scott!

It is our pleasure to announce that Scott Paxton is your new Head Coach at Great Missenden.

Scott fell in love with tennis and started playing at the age of four. Unfortunately, a knee injury in his early teens prevented him from continuing to playing competitive tennis at the highest level. Since then Scott has grown a strong passion for teaching the sport to others and is currently pending his level 5 LTA coach qualification.

Scott took his first tennis qualification at the age of 17 and has continued to develop his technical/tactical knowledge and skills through throughout his 14 years of full time coaching. Scott has developed his own unique style of coaching which he adapts to fully support players of all ages and abilities. Scott has been involved with coaching and training club, performance and u12 and u18 Hertfordshire County tennis throughout his career. He also has a strong background for teaching in Primary Schools and Mini Tennis with a track record for producing u9 and u10 county players.

Scott still has a strong passion for playing competitive doubles and takes any opportunity he can to play.

Do take the chance to come down and meet Scott. He will be found full time at the club from the 9th April and will be offering lots of taster sessions, so you can get to know him.

We are all really looking forward to Scott being at the club.
Junior Night - Quorn Family Cup and BBQ
We are starting up the BBQ and opening bar on Friday - 20th April. The weather according to BBC looks very promising and so let's start the season for juniors with a bang!
Come down and enjoy some tennis, and a burger, or simply enjoy the unaccustomed feel of the sun on your face and a glass in your hand!

CT will be running the Quorn Family Cup from 5pm. This is an LTA sponsored Mixed doubles adult and child event, which is open to red ball players.
Do sign up and give it a go!

Winners will have the opportunity to attend a National event, and there will be PRIZES on the day. For more information and how to enter (just £3) please see below

Coffee Culture at GMLTC – More than just Tennis.
As the new season begins, can we remind you that there are two sessions a week when you can sit back after your on-court exertions and enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee or pot of tea in our clubhouse. For a small contribution you can relax, chat and indulge in some homemade baking.

On Wednesdays the ladies social mix-in from 10am to noon is followed by coffee and cake, thanks to Amanda Smith for this.

On Friday mornings the kettle is on from about 10.30 and the cakes are courtesy of Jill and Kate. There is an extremely reasonable charge of £2 for coffee / tea plus cake. If you find that you cannot resist an extra slice, please stick a bit extra in the tin.

If you are playing at these times please join us, but also if you can’t play but fancy a cuppa, then come on down. Everyone is welcome.
We also keep the kitchen stocked with basics to make tea and coffee at all times for which the charge is just 50p. Again, please pay up if you use the supplies.
Ladies' Mondays
We had the first pot luck supper last Monday to start off the Monday Ladies night with twelve hardy souls turning out for a wet no-tennis evening! Hopefully next Mondayevening will be better and we look forward to starting the summer season properly then.

The next pot luck supper will be on Monday, 14th May.The format is just turn up and play, bringing a dish of food to share after the tennis has finished.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next Monday from 6.00pm onwards.
Neil's Note
G'day everyone!
Seems that Kate and I timed our 9 week trip to New Zealand and Oz well to miss the "beasts from the east"! Among a lot of beautiful scenery in NZ I was amazed to see a tennis club in the middle of Christchurch with 22 grass courts and only 3 all weather! I thought we had a lot of courts!

Back at the club we have a winter fixture pile up due to the snow beasts. These are being rescheduled where possible and there will be times in the next 3 to 4 weeks when there are a lot of matches at weekends. Despite the lousy weather Colin and Graig have done great work over the winter creating a new gravel path to the Court 14 area. They are trying to get the grass courts in shape for use later next month but that may slip to June.

I hope that members who have not yet paid their subscriptions for this season do so now. We have a new Head Coach, Scott Paxton, who is raring to go and there is a lot on in 2018 in terms of social play, junior tournaments, and social events, as well as lots of teams.

We have made a few revisions to the Social Calendar for 2018 which is accessible here: http://www.gmltc.com/event_calendar

The work to convert Courts 17 & 18 to a green / blue acrylic hard surface like Courts 8, 9 and 10 is scheduled to start in the first week of May. It looks likely that the work to then convert Court 8 to a clay court will need to be done in 2019. We are in the last year of our planned developments and near £300,000 spend on facility and club improvements. We need your membership income to continue and finish these improvements!

Happy hitting and spread the word to your friends and neighbours about the Open Day on Saturday May 12th.

Data Protection at GMLTC
As many of you will know a new regulation comes into force on May 25th called General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). This is an EU wide law and governs how businesses and organisations protect personal data. We have to comply with this regulation so have updated our Data Privacy Policy to reflect new requirements using an LTA template as our starting point.

You will notice that our website hosted by Clubbuzz now has a cookies notice and we have confirmed compliance with GDPR from ClubV1, our membership management system provider, and the LTA who provide the Clubspark modules we use for floodlit court bookings.

The data privacy policy can be found here on our website http://www.gmltc.com/gmltc_gdpr_data_policy. Members are requested to review this policy and direct any questions or requests relating to it to the Club Secretary and Data Protection Manager, Keith Armstrong, at keith.armstrong@ucl.ac.uk.
