Neil's Note
Well done to all our Club Finals Champions! We had some great 3-setters in both adult and junior finals and many thanks to all those who took part in all rounds, umpired and to Ross and the Fyfe's for organising the competitions. The remaining junior finals will take place on October 22nd. Rumours that Martin Quigley and I overdid the flame-grilled cooking method for the evening BBQ are entirely true... others called it a conflagration or "bloody hell what are Neil and Martin doing?" as the BBQ turned into an inferno! We were un-frazzled, just.

We have had 37 members register for the ClubSpark booking module to allow floodlit court bookings. A further 9 have been invited and are yet to complete the registration process. If you wish to be able to book a floodlit court this winter please email me at neil1miller@aol.com and I will send you the invite from ClubSpark. The block booking for club nights and coaching has been completed and is available to see in the Member's Area here: https://gmltc.clubbuzz.co.uk/members/court_bookings. We will keep an eye on usage so that we have the optimal mix of court usage across coaching, club nights and individual member booking.

A couple of requests - aka moans :) ): please remember to lock the top clubhouse door when you exit the room and put the key back in the lock box (code 0347). I have found the door open on many occasions recently. As the top clubhouse has been vandalised in the past it is important that we keep the door locked after use. When weather and time allows Colin will re-do our parking bay lines in the main car park. Could members please park with consideration for other users and try not to take up more than one space! I will ask our external clubhouse users to do the same.

If you have not signed up for Sunday Fun Tennis and / or the Winter Mixed League then do give them a go. Both activities cater for mixed rusties to team players so all are very welcome and cost nothing to take part!
Sunday Fun Tennis - Marvellous Opportunity to Join In
Come along and have some fun tennis! Sunday Fun Tennis is a league within GMLTC played for some fun and exercise over two hours on occasional Sunday afternoons between October 2017 and April 2018. Last season we had lots of fun and this season we hope to get enough players for more than 6 teams.

Each Sunday two teams of six comprising a Lady 1, 2, 3 and Man 1, 2, 3 will play a round-robin of short, 20 minute, sets. Your team partner is changed for each set but you always play against the same level Lady or Man in the opposing team. The number of games won by each team is recorded and at the end of the league a winning team is announced.

If we have numbers for six teams then you would play every 3rd Sunday. People often play more frequently as substituting at the same level (e.g Lady 2 for Lady 2) is allowed! Sign up is via the Doodle poll below indicating whether you are Lady / Man 1 (good standard /club 2nd / 3rd team level); Man / Lady 2 (bit of a player, can rally ok); 3 (Improver /rusty racket to beginner). You will then be allocated to a team and given dates for your matches.

You can sign up at the following Doodle Link: http://doodle.com/poll/p9hfqusekvmxh2v7 It's really easy to do and can be done via a PC, Apple or Smartphone. If Doodle is beyond your ken, please email davidhowells.uk@gmail.com

Please do sign up. It is a great way to keep your tennis going throughout the Winter and a good opportunity to meet lots of other club members who play at a variety of levels.
Winter Mixed Doubles Box League
Looking for a fun way to keep your tennis going over the winter season? The mixed doubles box league is a winter tradition, running between October and April each year.
It covers a wide range of standards of play and is open to all members. It involves playing about 4 matches over each 6 week period, which you organise at a time to suit yourselves. Each match comprises 11 games and all games count - the two pairs with the highest number of games move up to the next league at the end of the 6 week session and the two with the least move down, then we start again.
Matches plus warm up can easily be completed in a one hour session under the floodlights, but it is not a requirement to play at night. The first session will get started at the beginning of October, so please contact Frances Rawle (francesrawle@btinternet.com) by 22nd September if you are interested in joining.
It is best if you can find your own partner, but if you don't have one do get in touch anyway as I can sometimes put you in touch with others who are looking.

Come and join us!
