Adult Coaching Sessions
The new and improved adult sessions are into their third week running. The positive feedback we have received has been really good to hear so I would like to thank all of you that have been attending for you encouraging support.

The players have mentioned that the session being changed to an hour is a lot more fun and proactive because the content is more focused on the theme and the rotation amongst the drills is quicker.

The sessions run on a 12 week programme, each week is a different theme focusing on a specific shot or tactical intention. To see what is going on week by week, check out the website: http://www.gmltc.com/clublife/adult_technical_tactical

We have found that the structure of having a weekly theme in place is much preferred because everyone attending now knows exactly what will be covered in that class. After the sessions we have allocated the courts for an additional 30minutes of free play, this so far has been really successful. This has lead to more members playing socially amongst themselves as well as with players they wouldn’t normally hit with which is fantastic news!!!

To attend your free trial, please email me: ross@challenge-tennis.com and let me know what day and time you would like to attend.

Yours in Tennis,

Ross

AGM Jan 24th 2017
Our AGM will be held on Tuesday 24th January 2017 at 7.30pm at the club house. As per the Club Rules (available in the ‘Where can I find info on …?’ section of the Members’ area of the website), the agenda will cover the club’s finances, election of committee members, the appointment of an honorary auditor, any resolutions submitted and any other business that might be raised. The Committee will, for example, be asking eligible members* to vote on planned club infrastructure / facilities spend for 2017. To help us finalise the agenda, please let Stuart Jones know of any resolutions or other items you might want to be raised or addressed by Saturday 14th January at the latest. You can email Stuart at stuart@jonescasa.com. The formal meeting notice and agenda will be published on the website just before Christmas.

*all members are entitled to vote except non-playing / social, juniors and temporary members"
Wimbledon Opt-In
Reminder!
BTM members at the club (that should be just about everyone) will have received an email from the LTA about opting in for the Wimbledon Draw. In order to maximise the number of tickets that are allocated to the club, we would appreciate if everyone could opt-in to be part of the draw. Even if you don't intend to go in July it helps other members get tickets. To opt in, simply follow the instructions on the email, or if you can’t find the email, just go to lta.org.uk and login, and follow instructions to opt-in under the Wimbledon Ballot tab

Forgotten your user name and password? You can still opt-in by going to lta.org.uk and clicking on LOGIN. Here you will find instructions to find/update your details and then you can opt-in as above.

Thank you!
Neil's Note
I was inspired by Andy Murray's success in overhauling Djokovic to the year end World #1 slot. One of the great British sporting achievements! I hope members young and old were inspired to hit a few more balls or go for that winner down the line. I just wish I could get back on court to hit a few balls after 7 months out with dodgy elbows!

The Committee met last month to review where we are with the 2020 Business Plan and discuss the vision for the future of GMLTC. We are well ahead of plan on member growth at 540 members and in a good financial position. We agreed our next focus will be on pushing ahead with applications for more floodlighting - ideally two more courts...ideally Courts 2 and 3, but we have been refused permission there before. We think it is worth another fight to meet members' requests for more lights. We will review the detail of our current finances, 2017 investment plans requiring your vote, and further reaching (possibly far fetched to manage expectations...) plans for a dome at the AGM on January 24th. See the note in this Newsletter on the AGM.

Many thanks to Raja, Ross and junior parents for making Junior Night a success since the summer holidays ended. It has been extended far longer than before and with good numbers attending. Last Friday we had a great party in the clubhouse with 20 very excited and committed junior members. I am sure there could be the next generation Andy Murray or Johanna Konta around the table!

One final request - we are keen to spend your money on facility improvements and not heating bills! Please do not prop the clubhouse door open. Members can access the clubhouse with their swipe card or it can be put on the snib as long as you "unsnib" when your match / event has finished. See the notice on the wall by the door for how to "snib"! The door dog has been "retired"... Joost has also asked the Pilates / Yoga leaders to also help us in this matter.

Happy hitting and snibbing in the cold!
Neil
Quiz Night Fun and Games
The recent Quiz Night was a huge success, with over 80 quizzers coming along, and Ralph Bartlett in charge as Quizmaster, and general overseer of dodgy answers. Questions were answered, and prizes won, with a total of £550 (+ bar takings), being raised for club, and a further £450 raised for charity. (Rennie Grove Hospice Care, and Macmillan)
Many thanks to the hardworking organisers of the evening, Sarah and Amanda, Ralph and Mary B, and to all who came along and took part in such good spirit.
Shut The Door!
To reiterate Neil's words:
No more wedging the door open. Please put it on the snib. Members should have cards to get in. If not ask Mary Bartlett.
Our clubhouse has a very cost efficient heating system but it won’t remain so with the door jammed open .
More Charity Donations from GMLTC Members
A huge thank you to all of you who came to the mulled wine & mince pie morning last Friday & to the parents & children who came along to the Christmas Party in the afternoon - a total of £300 was raised & this will be split between Rennie Grove Hospice Care & Cancer Research Campaign - Thank you also to Karen Mackenzie-Crooks & Jill Newby for their donations from sales.
I would also like to thank Sue Economou, Sue Kwan & Joan Craig for their terrific help on the day. All in all a very successful day.
Jill

The Tennis Lovers Bond Dinner was held last week, and a further £500 was raised for Cancer Research

Junior Christmas Special
Last Friday, more than 20 kids followed their usual early evening session of Ross-led tennis fun by heading to the clubhouse for a bit more than just the usual hotdogs. Raja, our junior co-ordinator, set up the Christmas Special to celebrate the end of a very successful and fun season of Junior Nights led by our inimitable Coach Ross.

Jill, our Star of the Kitchen, had set up the room beautifully with the tree, and tables with crackers and snacks, cooked an abundance of sausages and cake for the hungry tennis players, along with mulled wine and mince pies for the parents.
To end up, Santa Neil arrived to give out some little early presents to our juniors to take home and put under the tree. (or more likely in the bathtub…)

Many thanks to all the helpers, particularly Raja, who masterminded the whole occasion, and to Jill, (S of the K) as well as all the parents who came, helped out and hopefully had a good time too!
