Neil's Note
Neil's Note

Hello everyone! Summer's here, and it's raining. Drat. At least our grass courts are bearing up well and have the appropriate colour given the watering they are getting. They have had a lot of usage since they opened for play in May and are back to being the preferred surface for many members, when it is dry. You may have noticed that the grass court baselines are wider and straighter following an investment in a baseline white-liner bit of kit for Craig and Colin. One of the many small improvements we have made to try to keep the club in tip top shape.
As reported in a previous Newsletter, Court 14 is now open for play with a rebuilt sub structure and Lano Grand Clay playing surface. We have put down a rubber mat on the entrance ramp as the red sand coming off shoes had made it slippery. If the mat has slipped down a bit please move it back up and we will look at a solution to fix it in place if it keeps moving.

We have had a good spring and summer of recruitment with 82 new members joining us since April 1st. 50 of these joined from our two Open Days so thanks to the volunteers who helped make those happen. I would like to wish a very warm welcome to our newest members! We hope you have had the chance to come and have a knock and join in.
Our total membership now stands at 552 versus a target of 557 for the financial year to end September 2017. We therefore hope to exceed the membership target with more recruitment in the final two months of the year. Our membership income is at 96% of target and should get nearer our target with recruitment over the next two months.
As I type this Neil's Note the kitchen is doing very well this week in generating additional income for the club to top up our Open Tournament proceeds. Many thanks to Jill, Kate and the teams of lady members who have been serving in the kitchen this week! Every penny of additional income counts and helps fund the improvement programme for courts, grounds and more lights!

Finally, I am working on the solution for extending wifi from the main clubhouse to the top house. Thanks to the parents who supported the Junior Night BBQ a couple of weeks ago to help raise funds for this. If we have any IP address / network boosting / Wireless Access Point / Power over Ethernet Injector experts in the membership please let me know (neil1miller@aol.com). Kate is a bit worried at the idea of me DIY-ing this!

I hope you all have a great summer and the wet stuff stops!

Happy hitting,

Neil
Finals Day and BBQ on Saturday
Open Tournament Finals Day and BBQ at GMLTC on Saturday - come and watch and nosh!

The finals of the Junior and Open age group competitions will take place this Saturday, 5th August, from 10am to about 5pm. Members are very welcome to come and watch some excellent tennis and the BBQ will be serving nosh between 12.15 - and 2pm along with the usual fine selection of GMLTC cakes in the kitchen. The bar will also be open. The finals will most likely be on the clays and acrylics, subject to weather. There will be plenty of courts for members to use too. If you have any questions about the tournament please contact Jill Stiel at jillstiel@gmail.com.
