Open Day Sat 12th May
Our first Open Day to attract new members is on Saturday 12th May, 11am to 3pm. Please encourage your neighbours, friends and family to come along and give us a try and experience our wonderful club! We need more members!

Challenge Tennis will be running mini, junior, adult and cardio tennis sessions and "family time" can be booked too to have a hit. The link to register and book sessions is here https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/Events/GreatMissendenLTC

The BBQ will be on at lunchtime and the bar will be open with tea and cakes too. so feel free to come down and have a hit and partake of the refreshments on offer. If you can help out by chef-ing the BBQ or having a hit with prospective members please let Neil know (neil1miller@aol.com). We will be using the 3 clays by the clubhouse and the acrylics if dry.

In addition, we have Sportscene who will be at the Open Day with range of clothing, shoes & equipment, and Huw Phillips from Racketspec will be on hand with his stringing machine to provide demonstrations.

And on a particularly tasty note, award winning ice cream from Auberge du Chocolat will be available. Fingers crossed for lovely ice-cream weather.
Club Closed Competition
Players - it's time to test yourselves! You may have beaten Halton, lost to Beaconsfield, drawn with Milton Keynes - after the long hike up there - and now it's time to see how you fare against our very own Great Missenden Players!
It's a summer long knock out competition, with a closing date for each round, so you can arrange your matches to suit yourselves. It really is a fun way to get to know some other players, improve your tennis by playing against our finest, and make the most of GMLTC summer tennis!

You will all have received an entry form for the annual GMLTC Closed Competitions - all ages, singles, doubles, mixed - along with your renewal info, so now's the time to find a willing and preferably VERY ABLE partner, if you are playing doubles, fill in the form and send it off to Andy Fyfe, so he can set up the draw.
Closing date is fast approaching - 15th May, so get onto it now!!

In case you can't find that darned application form, it's on the website in the member's area - "Closed competition 2018"
https://gmltc.clubbuzz.co.uk/members/closed_competition_2018

Remember that Finals Day for all competitions is on September 8th, so block it in your diary, so you are free to play that big Great Missenden Final!

Hourly pay is highly competitive. If you know of anyone, or indeed are interested yourself, please contact Joost van Spengler - vanspengler@btinternet.com
U8 Finals Day September 8th
Scott has agreed to run the entire 8 & under competition on Finals Day, 8th September. Thanks Scott. See him if your child wants to participate.

Mens Night Food
Mens Night continues to be an open to all “roll-up” format for male adult players every Tuesday from 1800 to about 2030hrs. Great news! Howard has kindly agreed to do food on Tuesday evenings from 8 May. The menu will probably vary between Babooti, Chilli and Steak (naturally Steak Nights will need booking), there will be ‘woodbine strength’ garlic bread too on most Tuesdays in case we have any vegetarians. Food starts at about 2015 hrs. Please help Howard and the club by doing a bit of clearing up each time after you have eaten. Food will not be provided on those Tuesdays which are forecast to be wet.
Open Day Racket Stringing
Huw Phillips from Racketspec will be on hand with his stringing machine to provide demonstrations.

Court 17 & 18 Development Work
As you may have seen work is underway to convert Courts 17 and 18 from tarmac to an acrylic hard court surface. The tarmac layer and new edging have been completed and now needs a 10 day period to cure. Following this a binding layer and the acrylic surface and green and blue colour scheme will be applied. The work should be complete by the end of the month! We are also buying some new water squeegees / rollers for our acrylic hard courts to get the water off. The current ones are rather past it! Next summer we plan to convert Court 8, the acrylic court nearest the clubhouse with the new floodlights, to carpet clay. This will complete our near £300k investment in club facility investments for the period 2015 to 2020.
Neil's Note
Many thanks to all the members who renewed their memberships in April or before. If yours is still outstanding please email Mary at membership@gmltc.com to process your rejoin now! No pay - no play!

We have 100 members (~ 50/50 adults and juniors) who have not renewed so we will need to do extra work on recruitment this summer to hit our target of 580 members by the end of September. On that point please encourage your neighbours and local friends to come to our Open Day next Saturday, 12th May - details and booking link in this Newsletter.

Finally, Craig may be able to white-line the grass courts next week if the promised good weather over this Bank Holiday weekend holds. No promises but we will try to get the grass courts in play as soon as possible.
Happy hitting

Neil
GMLTC On Facebook
We are now using Facebook as a channel for reaching out to new members and keeping existing members up to date with day to day bits of news that don't make it into the Newsletter. Sarah Yalden often posts coaching news on our site and keeps the Challenge Tennis and GMLTC Facebook sites in sync.
Our Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/GreatMissendenLTC/

We have about 50 followers but need many more and also some good positive reviews to highlight what at great club we are. If you are a Facebook user could you please follow us and write a positive review and give us lots of stars? Our local competitors are doing this and we are lagging behind!

If there are any social media experts out there who would like to manage GMLTC Facebook and other social media channels for the club please let Neil know. He currently does most of the Facebook content along with Sarah but would happily give it over to a more social media savvy volunteer!

Come and join us!
